About
Hey, I’m Brian Herrera and I currently build software at Amazon.
My career journey started as an IT Administrator at Double Helix Games, where my first experience with the cloud was a trial by fire.
The studio head asked me to set up a website for the launch of our upcoming game, Killer Instinct. I had never deployed a website before, but I teamed up with a local web developer to create the frontend while I designed the backend.
The moment our game was announced at E3, the site went down almost instantly. From there I learned the hard way about many cloud computing concepts related to load balancing, scaling, and why caching matters.
That experience set the tone for the rest of my career, constantly learning, figuring things out on the fly, and stepping outside my comfort zone. I’ve taken on a variety of roles over the years, working in Support, DevOps, Systems Engineering, and now Software Development.
If you want to see what I’m currently working on, you can find me on LinkedIn or GitHub.
Follow the Experiments
I don’t update my blog on a reliable schedule. I post when I’ve learned something or found a rabbit hole worth exploring.

Under the Hood
This site is built with Hugo using a customized version of the not-much theme and hosted on AWS.
