About

Hey, I’m Brian Herrera, a software developer at Amazon.

My journey into tech started as a Help Desk Admin at Double Helix Games, where my first experience with the cloud was a trial by fire.

The studio head asked me to set up a website for the launch of our upcoming game, Killer Instinct. I had never deployed a website before, but I teamed up with a local web developer to create the frontend while I designed the backend.

The moment our game was announced at E3, the site went down almost instantly. From there I learned the hard way about many cloud computing concepts related to load balancing, scaling, and why caching matters.

That experience set the tone for the rest of my career, constantly learning, figuring things out on the fly, and stepping outside my comfort zone. I’ve taken on a variety of roles over the years, working in Support, DevOps, Systems Engineering, and now Software Development.

If you’re curious about my work history or want to connect, you can find me on LinkedIn.

The contents of this site are the notes from my lab. The thoughts, opinions, and inevitable bugs are my own, and not those of my employer.
